Organizing for Action – Panama City, Florida Climate Change Press Conference

Title: Organizing for Action – Panama City, Florida Climate Change Press Conference
Location: Democratic Women’s Club of Bay County, Inc. Headquarters, 135 Harrison Avenue, Panama City, FL 32405
Description: Organizing for Action – Panama City, Florida is hosting a Climate Change Press Conference Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at 9 a.m. to hold Senator Rubio accountable for being a climate change denier. We ask all attendees to arrive at 8:45 a.m. to be there as media arrives.

The debate about whether climate change is real has been over for a long time —a majority of Americans, 97% of climate scientists, NASA, NOAA and the National Academy of Sciences all agree. But Senator Rubio is standing strong against the overwhelming judgment of science, so OFA will be handing out an “award” to recognize Sen. Rubio perseverance in resisting the facts.

Who: OFA-FL Volunteers and supporters from the Panama City area
When: Tuesday, August 13, 2013, 9:00 a.m.
Where: Democratic Women’s Club of Bay County, Inc. Headquarters,
135 Harrison Avenue, Panama City, FL 32401

There are a few things OFA – PC, FL needs to help make this event a success.

1) Most importantly, people! We need a large turnout to show the media, Panama City, and, of course, Senator Rubio, that we are serious about the effects of climate change and that we must take action to stop and, possibly, reverse the damages it causes.

2) Volunteer Made Signs.

3) 3 volunteers to be vetted to speak to the media about climate change. The volunteers would explain why climate change is important to them. Justin can prep and meet with anyone who would like to sign up for this.

4) 1 volunteer to be in charge of social media and tweet live during the event using hashtags.

5) Any attendees with nice cameras to bring theirs to take nice looking photos of the event.

NOTE: As is typical with these events, a lot of group photos will be taken. With media in attendance, please dress comfortably and appropriately.

Volunteer Made Signs Details
As many of you know, OFA is still in a very “grassroots-y” stage, which means they’re incredibly limited on funds. Those currently organizing in Panama City, Lisa Nixon and Justin Lavoie, are doing so on a volunteer (in other words, free) basis. We would love to have creative, clear, simple signs with big letters that are climate change focused signs for the media to focus on. Here are some helpful sign making tips.

Tips:
· Make sure your signs have letters big enough to see in your photographs
· Use bright, visible colors—blue and red are always in style—but not too many colors per sign.
